KARACHI: Twitter on Thursday suspended accounts of Journalists that made tweets about Elon and the company. This new jib conducted by Twitter in silencing the journalists opting for free speech has become a new controversy since Musk took over.
Journalists were tweeting about @ElonJet, a social media account claimed to be tracing location of Musk’s private aircraft. However, no such evidence was put forward. As per Elon Musk, his private jet locations are being reported, but no evidence has been put forward.
The suspension took place abruptly within hours of reporters covering the changes on Twitter. Many journalists have come forward and called it “jeopardizing” free speech. The increasing popularity of Twitter and its daily usage have questioned its upcoming policies under Musk’s regime.
The suspended accounts of journalists include Ryan Mac, a Times reporter, Donie O’Sullivan, a CNN reporter, Matt Binder from Mashable, and Aaron Rupar an independent journalist.
On Thursday, Musk in his response, said, “If anyone posted real-time locations & addresses of NYT reporters, FBI would be investigating, there’d be hearings on Capitol Hill & Biden would give speeches about end of democracy!”
Further, he said a car followed his children by “a crazy stalker” in Los Angeles and blamed the jet tracking for the incident. Adding more he said, a legal proceeding will be followed against the account of @ElonJet
As a result, the account was shut down on Wednesday despite Musk’s fervent free-speech claims. Later, Twitter came out and said that tweets giving private locations will be prohibited.
