KARACHI: In a meeting chaired by Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, Sindh Chief Secretary at Sindh Secretariat on Thursday reviewed arrangements for the local government (LG) elections. The LG elections will be conducted in 16 districts of Karachi and Hyderabad districts.
As per the Sindh Election commissioner, the local bodies elections would begin from 15th January. The commissioner had also asked the provincial government to make orderly arrangements for fair elections. Dr. Rajput, the chief secretary said the elections will have 4995 polling stations in Karachi and 3971 in Hyderabad. Security cameras will be installed at 1675 sensitive places in Karachi and 1015 in Hyderabad.
The meeting in Karachi was attended by Ejaz Anwar Chauhan, Sindh Election Commissioner, and Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, Home secretary. Ghulam Nabi Memon, IGP Sindh, Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Commissioner Karachi Division, Javed Alam Odho, Additional IG Karachi. While other deputy commissioners and the Hyderabad commissioner attended via a video link.
IGP Sindh Memon said that a plan had been assembled with 38,233 policemen in Karachi and 24,000 in Hyderabad to be deployed. Adding further, IGP said both security and transport plans are prepared. On the directives of the chief secretary, all schools and colleges are instructed to ensure water and electricity supply.
