KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) has nominated Khurram Sher Zaman as the candidacy for Karachi Mayor, as per the sources. However, the official decision lies with PTI chairman, Imran Khan.
Ali Ziadi, former federal Minister for Maritime Affairs who is also the president of PTI Sindh Chapter will supervise the election cell in Sindh. On the other hand, Bilal Ghaffar is appointed to look after the election cells in Karachi. Firdous Shamim Naqvi, senior PTI leader will be heading general election cells in Sindh.
As per the schedule of the Election commission of Pakistan (ECP), the local elections will take place on 15th January 2023 in Karachi and Hyderabad in their second phase. Moreover, the LG polls in Hyderabad and Karachi will be on 22nd November.
The Election Commission had ordained the Sindh government, chief secretary, and inspector-general of police to ensure elections are timely under article 220 of the Pakistan’s Constitution. The authorities have asked the Sindh government to ensure security at the polling station and for the polling staff so any mischief is avoided.
PPP on the Local Body Election 2022
Sindh’s ruling party also assured the ECP that it will hold the LG polls in the province on the designated date. PPP has also guaranteed to secure the ECP to hold elections on time. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, PPP Sindh President said that the provincial government is certain to conduct the second phase of LG according to the plan. Moreover he said, that PPP has obtained victory in the first phase will also landslide in the second local elections.
Jamaat-e-Islami applaud ECP
In a statement released by Jamaat-e-Islami regarding the ECP’s take, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, president, and Karachi’s chief said that the ECP has warded off the PPP government to ‘conspire against the LG polls’.
