Energy Conservation Plan Revealed: Markets, Wedding Halls, Restaurants to Close at 8pm

ISLAMABAD: In a press conference held by the federal ministers on Tuesday, new energy conservation plans are unveiled, with orders to close markets, wedding halls, restaurants by 8 pm. The conference was attended by Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Maryum Aurangzeb, and Qamar Zaman Kaira.

Speaking at the press conference, the Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that the wedding halls will close at 10 pm. The restaurant timings can be subjectively extended to an hour or so, he added.

The minister also stressed that allowing 20% of the workforce to work from home on rotational basis will save Rs56 billion.

He added further, that the decision will help Pakistan to save around 8000 to 9000 megawatts of electricity with Rs62 billion in a year.

The federal government is also overseeing the recommendation to switching off street lights alternately which can save around Rs4 billion.

“The government is also introducing e-bikes which will phase out the bikes that use petrol. The government is negotiating with the companies to phase out the bikes that use petrol and modify the existing bikes,” said Khawaja Asif.

Asserting that this “national programme” and will be launched with consensus of all provinces, the minister concluded that the final plan will be confirmed on Thursday.

“We need to change our habits if we want to live within our means,” said the defence minister. Asif advised the nation to adopt “austerity” to salavage the country from the ongoing economic crisis.
