KARACHI: Dr. Syed Saif ur Rehman, Administrator Karachi, on Tuesday thanked the Mayor of Shanghai and the Chinese government for donating Rs 21.7 million for the rehabilitation of infrastructure in Karachi destroyed by the disastrous flash flooding.
LI Bijian, Consul General of China said that the money granted will be utilized to restore the infrastructure of the metropolitan. The cheque was handed to the administrator Karachi by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government as a token of friendship for the people of Karachi.
The administrator Karachi was also invited by the Consul General of China. Dr. Syed Saif ur Rehman who asserted that Karachi and Shanghai are “twin” cities and more twin city agreements can strengthen development of economic, political, social and cultural relations between Pakistan and China. He said, both people of the country share the love of brotherhood.
“Mayor of Shanghai, Mr. Gong Zheng had visited KMC which is a source of great joy and pride for us. KMC and Shanghai local governments will work together for the development of Karachi. Technical support of China for improving the infrastructure of Karachi will continue for Karachi,” Dr. Syed Saif ur Rehman added.
A letter was also handed to the Mayor in which the administrator ensured that the money donated by the Chinese administration will be diligently utilized in the development of Karachi. Moreover, he added that the flash flooding in Karachi had damaged the foundations of structures.
“Karachi and its citizens extend their heartfelt greetings to the Government of China and the people of Shanghai for this donation, which will be used to rehabilitate the infrastructure damaged by rains and floods,” the administrator further added.
Visit to City Council Hall
Both the functionaries paid a visit to the Council Hall of the KMC head office where the guest was briefed about the historical overview of the city council hall.
