Anum Razzaque

The opposition coalition has began the consultation to de-notify the Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhary Parvez Elahi. A formal notification will be issued today.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and PML-N leader Attaullah Tarar said that CM Elahi has lost the majority in the provincial assembly. “If he has the support of 187 members, why is he reluctant to take the vote of confidence?” the PML-N leader asked while speaking to the media outside the governor’s house in Lahore.

Tarrar said, “Now, the governor will decide when to de-notify the chief minister.”

Atta Tarar said that Parvaiz Elahi should resign from his CM designation, as he no longer enjoys the majority of the house.

A spokesperson of the Punjab government claimed that the Governor has no right to denotify the chief minister, and warned the opposition if they’ll take any unconstitutional move they will register a case of breach of law.

Letter to Dislodge Governor Punjab

Governor Punjab Baligh-ur-Rehman termed the illegal ruling of Speaker Punjab Assembly Sibtain Khan which disposed of his directions regarding the vote of confidence and described it as “unconstitutional.”

Rehman, sent a notification to the speaker and termed his ruling as “illegal conduct.”

In response to the speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Sibtain Khan wrote a letter to the President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi to replace the Governor of the province.

Provincial Minister, Raja Basharat said, “under Article 101 section 3 President has the authority to dismiss the governor.” The Article further reads; “The Governor shall hold office during the pleasure of the President.”

The speaker reiterates his stance in the letter and said Governor has taken an unconstitutional move and called the assembly session without proroguing the previous session of the assembly, adding that the governor directed the Chief Minister to take a trust vote from the house on 21st December.

Dissolution Of Assembly

The politics of Punjab came into crisis after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan announced the dissolution of Assemblies.

On Dec 17, former PM Imran Khan announced that the PTI and its ally PML-Q will dissolve the Assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa on Dec, 23.
