ISLAMABAD: The federal capital of the country was rocked by an explosion, on Friday morning. A police personnel was martyred and at least six were wounded in the blast, reported Capital TV.
Rescue sources said, “Bomb blast happened in the area of IT-4 located in Islamabad.”
As per Deputy Inspector General of Police Sohail Zafar Chattha, the police took note of a “suspicious vehicle” with a couple aboard at 10:15am in the area.
Addressing a media briefing at the crime scene, the Deputy Inspector said, “When the police stopped the vehicle, the couple came out of the car. The long-haired man, while being checked by the officers, went inside the vehicle on some pretext and then detonated himself.”
Lauding the police for “saving Islamabad from a major foul play,” he lamented that a police officer of the Eagle Squad was martyred in the blast while four others officers were injured.
The slain officer has been identified as Head Constable Adeel Hussain. In a tweet by Islamabad police, it was cited that terrorists had been targeting police for some time to demoralise law enforcement personnel.
According to the police, Muhammad Hanif, Muhammad Yousuf, and Muhammad Bilal were injured while the constable Adil was martyred in the explosion.
Police cordoned off the area after the incident and emergency has been declared in PIMS Hospital Islamabad with heavy police force deployed outside the hospital.
