ISLAMABAD: American Embassy tightened security in the capital city, issuing an alert to staff to be vigilant of any “possible attacks” or unusual activity.
The alerts were issued after the Islamabad I-10 suicide attack incident where one police personnel embraced martyrdom, and several others were wounded.
The security alert restricted staff of the US Embassy from visiting the Marriot Hotel fearing threats of “an expected attack.”
The alert stated that the US government was “aware of information that unknown individuals are possibly plotting to attack Americans at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad sometime during the holidays.” The staff was also advised to avoid “non-essential, unofficial travel in Islamabad throughout the holiday season.”
The US Embassy also restricted staff from participating in any public gatherings, visiting places of worship and review personal security plans during the period of holidays.
In the aftermath of the suicide attack, the administration of the capital territory and government tightened the security surveillance in the city.
Section, 144 has been implemented in the ICT, and all meetings, jalsas, and public gatherings are banned in the federal capital, especially in wake of the upcoming LG election.
