Instead Of Holding LG Polls in ICT, ECP Files Intra Court Appeal

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) did not comply with the judgment of the Islamabad High Court referred to hold Local Government polls on (Today) Saturday. However, the commission filed an Intra court appeal regarding the order passed by the single bench.

The leaders of Jamat-e-Islami Mian Aslam and Ali Nawaz Awan have been made parties in the petition.

On Friday, IHC ordered to ECP to conduct a Local Government election in the federal capital (Today) Saturday.

However, After the judgment, the election commission called an emergency meeting regarding cogitated the court decision.

The Federal Interior Minister Rana Sana Ullah reveal the factor of delaying in LGs in ICT, saying, “According to voter lists, there are 70 thousand voters who are not present in their addresses, and approximately 15 applications are pending, referring to the issue.”

“Those who are raising voices against the delay in LG should be seated in the Parliament House. They are resting in their houses after resignations”, says Sana Ullah.

Sana Ullah asserted that elections can not be held without legislation.

“The Local Government Departments had completed their tenure in 2020 when Imran Khan led PTI Government was ruling in the country”, says Sana Ullah and added the question, “So why didn’t they hold the LG polls?.”

Meanwhile, On the next side, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to submit a plea against ECP referring to contempt of court.

“Despite the order of the court, commission didn’t hold elections, and they are saying they were not prepared for the LG election, the court should take action against ECP”, Demands Asad Umar, Secretary of PTI.

He also claimed that government is behind the contempt of court and said, “Important government is trying to escape from the election.”
