KARACHI: As per the Karachi Police statement more than 34 people were arrested for celebratory firing on New Year’s Eve. In an operation conducted by Police raiding and arresting offenders from various areas of Karachi. Numerous people were injured in the aerial firing including kids and females.
In addition to, 10 people were injured from the East district, four from the City district, five from South District, three from Korangi District, one from the West district, and one from Malir District. A social campaign was launched by Javed Alam Odho, IGP Karachi to create awareness among citizens and disapprove aerial firing.
CM Sindh asked citizens to celebrate the New Year with “dignity and honor”. The ban on pillion riding was lifted by the CM emphasizing citizens to be more responsible. Moreover, DIG south, Irfan Baloch, added aerial firing will be treated as an attempt to murder.
More than 30 people are arrested and attempted murder cases have been filed against them. The cases registered are under Section 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code Act and Section 23(1)(a) of the Sindh Arms Act. Two policemen were also involved in the aerial firing.
Ban was lifted on Pillion Riding
Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh removed the ban against pillion riding in reference to New Year’s Eve on Saturday. CM Murad expressed his hope that the youngsters would respect the decision to lift the ban. CM added that young people should celebrate the New Year “with dignity and honor.”
The CM expressed his hope for citizens to refrain from harmful activities including one-wheeling and aerial firing. He had asked the citizen to act responsibly and respectfully to each other and their families. Moreover, he wished New Year to be more democratic in restoration for flood victims and the economy.
