LAHORE: The growing hazardous smog and air pollution in the Punjab region affected numerous lives. The Punjab government decided to tackle the dangerous smog through a Chinese anti-smog technology by erecting smog towers in Lahore and other parts of the Punjab province in the year 2023.

In a meeting attended by Chief Minister Chaudhary Pervez Elahi and Zhao Shiren, Chinese Consul General Lahore the developments were made, reported by Gwadar Pro on Monday.

The decision was made to improve the air quality of Lahore. The meeting discussed and handed over documents to the special task force Punjab on smog regarding the Smog Free Tower built in China.

The environmental hazard has caused several difficulties for the people of Punjab. Not only has daily life been affected but work outcomes are also compromised.

As per the Air quality index (AQI), the air quality is diagnosed as “Very Unhealthy”. Lahore is mainly known for its heritage and preserving culture. The city is being diluted by the hazardous smog hovering over the province. Lahore was recently ranked as fifth in the top tenth ranking of the most pullulated city with harmful air quality.

CM Punjab’s Secretariat said that these towers will be a solution to the escalating air pollution. These Chinese technologies will be installed and work as purifiers in Lahore and other cities. Moreover, these installers will be built near industrial areas and territorial areas, says CM Secretariat.

The objective of the project will also support cost-effective ways to remove dirt from the air. China has the largest seven meters tall smog-free tower situated in Beijing that produced eight cubic meters of clean air.
