Deadlock Persist, MQM & PPP Meeting On LGs In Sindh Ends Without Results

KARACHI: The Local Government (LG) Elections in Sindh entered in new problem. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan Demanded the delimitation of constituencies before the LGs on Monday, while Sindh Government is focusing on the consequences of the demand, said sources.

On Monday, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the ruling party of Sindh, and the delegation of MQM took a meeting referring LGs in the province, chaired by the former President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari.

The meeting ended without conclusion, while both parties stood on their stance.

The law team briefed the participants and said, “It is impossible to do immediate delimitations of constituencies. The process would take four months, approximately.”

“This is not an ordinary process”, says the law team, adding, “Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is pressurizing the government to conduct LGs in Karachi and Hyderabad, in case of disobeying the ECP has authority to take action against the government, “briefed law team.

Furthermore, the team said Commission is reviewing the preparation personally.

‘MQM Demands on UCs’

On the reflecting side, MQM has demanded Sindh Government change the constituencies of 73 Union Councils (UCs).

According to the sources of Capital Tv, MQM said the Sindh government, can fulfill the demand through legislation.

“The Sindh government put its stance that delimitations of constituencies can not be changed, after the announcement of ECP”,says sources.

As per Sources, the Sindh Government said, “If they would changed the delimitations of constituencies in Karachi, there will be many objections raised from the entire province”, adding, “The matter can be entered the court as well.”
