NIH Rejects Reports of New Covid19 Variant

ISLAMABAD: The National Institute of Health (NIH) rejected the reports of another variant of Covid19 diagnosed in Pakistan on Tuesday. There has been no case of BF7 reported yet, said NIH.

The development came after reports that said a new variant of Omicron BF7 has been detected in the country.

The NIH said in a shared statement that it is baseless news that a new variant has been detected in the country, and Pakistan is reporting new cases regularly, but it is different from the virus detected in neighboring country China.

In China, as the virus spreads unchecked, funeral parlors have reported a spike in demand for their services, and international health experts predict at least one million deaths in the world’s most populous country this year.

According to Reuters, China reported three new Covid19 deaths on Monday, taking its official death toll since the pandemic began to 5,253.

As per NIH, there are 29 cases of covid19 reported in Pakistan, which varies from the new variant detected in China.

The institute claimed that there is not any single case of BF7.

As reports say, “The sub-variant of Omicron BF7 or XBB is more infectious than previous viruses”.

After the fear of a new variant, the coalition government led by Shehbaz Sharif tightened the belt, and started taking measures. Last week the Minister of Health, Abdul Qadir Patel, directed to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), start screening passengers strictly.

PM Chaired Meeting

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Sharif vowed to control Covid19 and directed the concerns deparments to vaccinate 100% of children aged 5-12 years on an emergency basis.

PM applauded the work of the National Commands and Operation Centre (NCOC) says the rate of Positive cases of Covid19 in Pakistan declined.

In a meeting referring Covid19 chaired by PM Shehbaz Sharif, the Participants mulled the measure to avert the comeback of the Pandemic.

PM said, “90% eligible population of Pakistan are fully vaccinated, and 95% at least get a single dose of vaccines, and the rate of disease in Pakistan at 0.2%.

PM expressed hope that the new variant would not be more dangerous for the country.

Furthermore, he directed the CAA to take sufficient measures against the spread of Covid19 and start random sampling and screening at airports.
