KARACHI: The business community on Wednesday rejected the Energy Conservation plan of the Federal Government and termed the plan a ‘harmful’ act for the economy.
On Tuesday, the government announced the energy conservation plan, which directed to close markets at 8:30 pm.
In a press briefing, Defense Minister Khuwaja Asif said, “We have discussed the problems referring energy crisis with the business community and decided the timings of market closure”
However, the traders said, “The government is cracking down on business. It imposed the decision without listening to our advice.”
Rejecting the decision of the government, Jameel Paracha said, “The government knows very well that the economy is on the ventilator, we can’t accept the decision in this situation.”
Sharjeel Goplani complaint, “The containers are stuck at port, we are paying millions of rupees apart on demurrage,” adding, “The country has been bankrupt, a state bank isn’t giving a dollar to us, even they are borrowing money from our accounts.”
“Money is being illegally taken from the accounts of importers, we are still providing employment, so this decision should not be passed on us,” said Goblani.
Waqas Azeem said, “We will not accept any decision of the government referring closure of the Market.”
The government announced to impose of furthermore restrictions to control the energy crisis, but the business community has been denied to follow the energy conservation plan.
The decision has been announced by government amid of new wave of inflation, which has reached 24.5% according to the data issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
