KARACHI/ LAHORE: The emerging indignation of inflation forced people to buy commodities at high prices, bread is a basic need to live, but a whopping jump in flour prices made it difficult to eat with a full stomach.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), during the week, the flour prices geare up by 1.09%, while the rate of inflation in the country reached 24.6%.
On the next side of the picture, the price of chicken also opened out wings during the week and jumped from Rs350 to Rs550 Per KG, the SPI shows that the prices jacked up by 16.09%.
The commercial hub of the country is already facing a shortage of flour for months. During the crisis, the prices of flour jumped from Rs75-Rs80 per Kilogram (KG) to Rs120-Rs140 per KG.
In September, amid the flour crisis, the Information Minister of Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced selling flour at Rs65 per KG.
On 6 January, in another development Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approved the grant to buy 0.3 million tons of wheat to address flour shortage.
However, Punjab is also suffering from a high inflationary wave, and the basic need, flour teasing the people, where a raise in prices created supply issues.
The food department of Punjab has decided to increase the subsidized quota, according to the decision the quota of flour mills in Punjab will be increased by 1500 tons regularly.
The wheat quota for flour mills will be increased from 21,500 to 23,000 tons per day.
The rate of flour in Punjab has increased due to the consumption of flour and the increase in wheat rates by the Sindh government.
