KARACHI: To protest outside the Karachi office of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the MQM (Muttahida Qaumi Movement) coordination committee members visited towns on Wednesday.
MQM will record its protest if the Local elections are delayed from 15th January. The members said the delimitation of the constituencies in urban Sindh is against the constitution.
Moreover, they added, “fake and biased constituencies” are being carried out in urban Sindh, therefore mass demonstration will be held on 11th January. It committee member also decided to launch a contact campaign by the MQM workers in respective areas to increase participation.
They also condemned pre-poll rigging in the LG election which can only be possible via a free and transparent election, the committee put forth.
ECP & PPP
Both ECP and PPP assured to conduct elections on the given date in Karachi and Hyderabad. MQM demanded delimitation and to change the limit of 70 union councils (UC). Sultan Raja, Chief Election Commissioner assured the MQM and said, “MQM is being misfeasance regarding electoral rules election, there we will not allow further delay in LGs.”
