ISLAMABAD: Dr. Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, Chairperson of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights has criticized the National Commission for the Rights of Child (NCRC) for their zero efficiencies in child rights cases.
In the meeting on Thursday, senators and Bhutto shared their concerns over the commission and its failure in tacking the implementation of the Zainab Alert Bill.
The director general of NCRC was criticized by the chair of the meeting to expedite the performance. Moreover, Bhutto was also not satisfied with Zainab Alert Bill, Response and Recovery Bill passed in 2020 March. She added the rules to the Zainab Alert bill should have been made six months after the bill passed, also, she said, further notions will be filed by 17 January, if rules are not submitted.
Abuse Cases in Jail
Rabiya Javeri Agha, Chairperson National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) in a meeting, highlighted the worse conditions where 82 children were kept in Adiala Jail, as stated by the NCHR report of 2022.
Moreover, Agha brought attention to drugs being assisted by the prisoners. Adding more, she said the high court ordered to form of a complaint cell at the jail. The NCHR report had seven officers dismissed, four suspended and 38 transferred.
On the other hand, Agha raised the issue of detaining people in unlicensed mental health centers. The NCHR made seven attempts to meet prisoners in the Adiala Jail from 21st September 2022. The prisoners, however, complained of inhumane brutality and torture in the jail by the authorities.
Last year in 2022 IHC (Islamabad High Court) ordered the government with the help of NCHR to form a complaint cell to prevent abuse cases.
