On January 13, the Foreign Office (FO) stated that it was “looking into” the claim that a member of its staff had inappropriately questioned an Indian woman at the Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi.
Here’s what happened:
The woman, who is a professor and department head at Punjab University claimed that when she went to the high commission to apply for a visa, a staff member made her feel uncomfortable. “He questioned why am I single, how do I survive without marriage, what do I do for my sexual desires,” she stated.
Why she wanted to visit Pakistan?
The professor planned to travel to Lahore for a lecture at a university. She requested for the issue to be addressed in a letter written to Indian External Affairs, Minister S. Jaishankar.
What’s next:
“We pay considerable priority to correct etiquette and decorum for all visa and consular applicants,” FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated. Baloch claims that the diplomatic personnel is mandated to follow rigorous guidelines and act professionally.
