Following ECP’s Rejection Sindh Govt. Once Again Requests to Postpone LG Polls

ISLAMABAD: The Matter of the second phase of the Local Government (LG) polls in Sindh falling into a mess again, Sindh Government has sent afresh request to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to put off the elections.

On 13 January, The ECP had rejected the request of the Sindh government regarding the same issue and reiterated that the election cannot be held on time.

The Sindh government announced on 12 January that Karachi, Hyderabad and Dadu won’t host the Local Government elections on 15 January.  

In the second plea, the Sindh government said, “due to the lack of security, the election cannot be conducted on 15January.”

“Yesterday, the Sindh government conducted a meeting chaired by the chief secretary of Sindh, the secretary of the election commission also participated in the meeting.”

Furthermore, the letter says, “Participants had been informed regards the expected fears of security.”

“The situation requires to deploy the contingents of the army and rangers during the polling, but Interior Ministry has been excused, regarding their presence for election security.”

In the letter, the Sindh government solicited to postpone the second phase of polling.

According to the report of Capital TV, the ECP called an emergency meeting related request of the Sindh government.

“The ECP will mull the solicitation of the Sindh government,” says Sources.
