US, Pakistan share a “long-standing relationship,” says US Secretary of Defense to the COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and United States Secretary of Defence Lloyd J Austin discussed various topics including regional development in a telephonic conversation on Saturday. Since the advent of 2023, both Pakistan and US have shared two high-level interactions. Prior to the last month, when Central Command (Centcom) Chief General Michael Erik Kurilla visited Pakistan and met COAS along with General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

In a recent statement by the Department of Defense,  Austin referred to the partnership as “long-standing” and looking to expand with the COAS.

He added that the areas of mutual interest and regional developments were discussed. The US secretary has also congratulated the newly appointed COAS.

Prior to the last month meeting, General Michael Erik Kurilla met Pakistani military officials and discussed various topics including the Pakistan-Afghanistan territorial situation. Moreover, both countries have discussed to abide by strengthening military relation.

The leaders talked about ways to strengthen ties between Centcom and the Pakistan Army as well as security cooperation, and border security along with the threat posed by terrorist organizations in the area.
