LG Polling Completes Peacefully, Vote Counting Underway

KARACHI: Amid boycott from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Second phase of Local Government (LG) Elections have been completed in Sindh peacefully, counting of vote is in progress, results are expected to announce in the coming week.

The polling has been start from 8am and closed at 5pm, the turnout of voters was low but it has been improved by the end.

Chief election commission visited monitoring office during the polling and described the holding election as ‘auspicious’ for the democracy.

He also congratulated Sindh government, ECP teams, and security forces for the peaceful process of polling.

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah applauded the performance of security forces, police rangers and FC personnel.

According to the initial and non-governmental results received yet, the Pakistan people’s party is on peak and leading position.

‘MQM Rejects Second Phase of LG’

As MQM was not a part of election, while announcing boycott the MQM described elections as pre-rigging polls.

After the polling MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said, “The people of Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Al-Hiyar have given a decision in their favor, and urban Sindh have rejected the snatching of elections.”

“Today, MQM salutes the Righteous People, we boycotted in 1997 as well,” Said Siddiqui.

“In 2001, Jamaat-e-Islami had an opportunity to do something for the city, Jamaat-e-Islami is the rejected party of Karachiites, in 2005, and the mayor of Lahore had to set an example of the development of Karachi,” says convener.

Farooq Sattar said, “It is unfair to the city to participate in the electoral process without obtaining local rules.”

The Election Commission adopted an unfair practice he always shows biased in the matter of constituencies and neglected its duties

Mustafa Kamal said, “Our boycott was not for establishing monopoly but for rights, after Article 10A, the Election Commission has no power to rejects our reservations.”

“After months, PPP accepted our arguments and admitted its mistake, 53 union councils are less than Sindh government has accepted,” Mustafa Kamal.
