KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan announced a boycott of the Local Government (LG) Election, and termed it pre-rigging polling, and said the Election Commission of Pakistan didn’t hear our reservations.
On Saturday, in a late-night press conference, convener Kahlid Maqbool Siddiqui said, “We had tried to do legislation for a free and fair election.”
“We had knocked on the door of the election commission, the ECP has the responsibility to hold free and fair elections and delimitation of constituencies is the duty of ECP and they are responsible for this pre-rigging polling,” says Siddiqui.
“The local body elections have already been rigged. Accordingly, we refuse to recognize the polls.”
“We have been fighting for justice until today [January 15]. The provincial government also drew the ECP’s attention to the delimitations of the constituencies,” he said. But, the ECP turned a deaf ear to all entreaties of MQM-P, he claimed.
“All the efforts that Muttahida put in were not meant for the mayor ship but for the proper representation of the city,” he emphasized. He went on to say that the city would not acknowledge these elections as “there is no voter list or delimitations properly managed by the ECP.”
Earlier, MQM presented its reservation before PDM and Sindh government and also announced to separate the way from the coalition government.
