LAHORE: A new thriller has entered the politics of Punjab, the aftermath of Chief Minister (CM) Parvez Elahi’s advise, the Provincial Assembly (PA) has been dissolving, and no name has yet appeared for the caretaker CM.
Governor Punjab Baligh-ur-Rehman didn’t sign the summary sent by the former chief minister Elahi, which advised him to dissolve the assembly.
It doesn’t matter whether the governor signed the summary or ignore it, according to the constitution the provincial assembly will automatically dissolve within 48 hours after the summary of the CM.
Article 112, clause (1) of the constitution of Pakistan reads; The Governor shall dissolve the Provincial Assembly if so advised by the Chief Minister; and the Provincial Assembly shall, unless sooner dissolved, stand dissolved at the expiration of forty-eight hours after the Chief Minister has so advised.
As CM Punjab sent a summary on 12 January, and Governor Punjab has denied signing on it, as 48 hours have been passed and the provincial assembly of politics has been dissolving.
However, along with the dissolution of the assembly the cabinet of Elahi dissolved as well, according to the constitution till the setup of the caretaker government, Parvez Elahi will perform as CM.
Governor has sent the letter to CM Punjab Elahi and the opposition leader of the Punjab assembly Hamza Shehbaz for consensus on the name of the caretaker Chief Minister.
“If both CM and opposition leader will be failed to select the name, the matter will be presented before a parliamentary committee and they will have 3 days to announce the name.”
However, if the parliamentary committee will also fail to select the name so the election commission will have the authority to select the name within 2 days.
Leaders’ Meeting
According to the source Today Premier Shehbaz Sharif will meet the party leaders.
“In the meeting, the leaders of PMLN will discuss the political situation in the country and will consider the name of caretaker CM of Punjab after assembly dissolution.”
On the other hand, Ex. President Asif Ali Zardari is present at Bilawal House in Lahore, He will meet Premier Shehbaz.
The current political and economic situation and Punjab and KP elections will be discussed in the meeting between the two leaders.
The former president will consult the party leaders on the future strategy.
However, the chairmen of Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf Imran Khan will meet CM Elahi and mull the options for care taker setup.
