What happened:

On January 15, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leaders, including party chief Imran Khan, were accused of utilising public resources for personal gain. The allegation has been made by Awami National Party (ANP) provincial president Aimal Wali Khan.

The accusation:

Wali said in a news release from Bacha Khan Markaz that the PTI administration borrowed a record amount of Rs987 billion during the course of its 10-year mandate. He further clarified that the ANP government cleared all foreign debts during its time in office.

The president claimed that despite receiving significant loans from abroad, the PTI government failed to serve people in KPK due to incompetence, “They failed to manage resources for the benefit of the populace,” he added.

Further claims:

According to Wali, the BRT project, which cost twice as much as it should have, serves as evidence of the PTI government’s incompetence, “Public funds and resources were wasted in this,” he says.

He added that the PTI administration’s projects, such BRT and Billion Tree, suffered from irregularities, “Now Khyber-Pakhutnkhwa has been facing financial difficulties with the provincial government. They are unable to pay salaries and pensions to their employees for the past two months.”
