ECP Issues Notice to Political Parties Over Running Ads on Polling Day

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a notice of the violation of electoral rules, as political parties didn’t discontinue their election campaign ahead of 24 hours of polling.

“The allegations regarding delimitation are baseless according to section 10 of the local government act 2013, the provincial government has the authority to issue the quantity of each union council,” stated the notification.

The article reads; A Union Council shall be an area comprising one or more revenue deh(s), notified as such by Government.

As Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) raised reservations about the delimitation of constituencies and blamed the election commission had conducted pre-rigging polls.

The commission said to political parties who were continuing the election campaign on 14 January, “submit your explanation before ECP by 16 January.”

“Under Article 218, clause (3) the commission has the authority to conduct free and fair elections and take action against violation of the acts,” says the notice.

“Under Article 4 of electoral rule 2017, the commission has the authority to issue orders and directions.

The notification reiterates the code of conduct of the election 2022.
