Former chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team Shahid Afridi has expressed disagreement with Najam Sethi’s choice to make Shan Masood the vice-captain of the ODI squad.
Shadab Khan is the vice-captain of Pakistan’s ODI squad, but he suffered from a fracture in his finger, the PCB chairman chose opening batsman Shan Masood over many other experienced players like Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan, and Fakahar Zaman. All these players are consistently playing well in all formats. This decision came right after the New Zealand tour.
In an interview, Afridi said that before making such decisions, the selection committee should be consulted and that the key consideration for this choice should be performance. Shahid said, “He also pointed out that Masood had not played many ODIs for Pakistan and that there were older players available who could have been considered instead when picking a captain or vice-captain.”
