Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that his country is developing a strategy to encourage women football competitions. The national women’s team’s secured a remarkable second-place result at the Four-Nation Cup in Saudi Arabia.
The women’s squad earned a tie against Saudi Arabia in the tournament. This was Pakistan’s second international competition after FIFA lifted its suspension on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF). As a result, they finished in second place.

Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Saudi Arabia on their championship win on Twitter and praised the squad for their effort. He lauded Maria Khan’s leadership which enabled the women in green to tie the game. The Prime Minister said that the government is actively developing a strategy to support women football sports in Pakistan as he stated, “We are working on a strategy to support women sports in Pakistan.”
In the first half of the encounter against Saudi Arabia, the visitors gained an early lead, but Pakistan’s squad rallied back and tied the game with an incredible goal from Maria Khan. Pakistan lost to Mauritius by a score of 2-1 in their previous match before drawing with Saudi Arabia. In their first game, they defeated Comoros by a score of 1-0.
