LHC Imposes Rs. 200,000 Fine on Shopkeepers Who Violate 10pm-Closure Rule

Markets and stores that remain open past 10 o’clock will now have to pay a Rs 200,000 fine, according to the Lahore High Court (LHC). 

A hearing of numerous petitions on how to reduce smog, make society pollution-free, and safeguard groundwater from waste was being presided over by Justice Karim. Muhammad Imran Saleem, the Lahore Supermarket’s secretary general, showed up in court. He made the request as he said this would make life easier for traders.

Due to the worsening pollution conditions, Justice Karim ordered that eateries and markets close at 10 p.m. in December 2022. However, he had let restaurants stay open on weekends until 11 p.m.

The court stated that it was delighted to hear it from an official. It assured it will also look into the issue of one-dish violations at wedding events. “The country needs to improve its culture,” it added.

The Lahore CCPO, the deputy commissioner, and other authorities were ordered by the court to carry out its directives.
