ISLAMABAD: Former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan does not believe that former Army Chief Gen. (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, ex-Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. Gen. (retd) Faiz Hamid, and former military spokesperson Lt. Gen. Asif Ghafoor played a significant role in making Imran Khan the Prime Minister in 2018.

When it comes to the PTI leader’s accusations against the former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, the senior politician believes it is not appropriate to level allegations against someone. He stated that he has heard about Khan’s claims, but Gen. (retd) Bajwa has not responded to these allegations on the record. The former Interior Minister said that he does not disagree with the view that Gen. (retd) Bajwa, Gen. (retd) Faiz Hamid, and Lt. Gen. Asif Ghafoor played a significant role in installing Khan as Prime Minister.

Nisar discussed his relationship with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and said he has friendly relations with Imran Khan, but he fears that this friendship might end once he joins the party. Moreover he stated that he will run for elections for the provincial and national assembly as an independent candidate.

Removal of Imran Khan

Nisar attributed the ouster of the Imran Khan-led government through a vote of no-confidence to the internal politics of Pakistan. He commented that Imran had lost the majority in the assembly. Furthermore, Nisar stated that he still supports the Afghan Taliban as they are a unified group, whereas the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is a separate organization with 20-22 different groups.

Dar vs Ismail

When asked to compare Ishaq Dar or Miftah Ismail as the finance minister, the former minister said: “You may have different opinions on the policies of Miftah, but he is an economist, whereas Ishaq Dar is an accountant.”

He also highlighted that changing the system is not a solution, what is needed is a change in our attitude and conduct. He said that everyone who ruled Pakistan during the last 70 years is responsible for the current situation in the country.
