ISLAMABAD: Minister of Energy, Khurram Dastagir, announced that the Premier has formed a committee to investigate and rule out the possibility of foreign interference causing a nationwide power breakdown.
In a press conference, Dastagir stated that the committee, headed by Musadiq Malik, will investigate the matter and that the Ministry of Energy will cooperate with them.
“In the past, there have been many instances of hacking attempts, however, the chances of hacking being the cause of the current breakdown are less likely,” says Dastagir.
Dastagir stated that “The main reason for the breakdown is believed to be a technical fault, however investigations are still necessary to confirm this.”
The Minister criticized the previous government by describing them as having “enmity towards CPEC and Energy” and stated that the former rulers were responsible for the energy crisis.
While discussing the previous breakdown, he said, “In 2019, they had installed used conductors in our sensitive plants, which were already 20 years old.”
He stated that all grid stations in Pakistan have been restored and will soon begin providing 1100MW to Karachi.
The spokesperson of Karachi Electric said the electricity has been restored in the commercial and industrial areas of Karachi.
He said Local-level faults in some areas may disrupt the power supply.
