Famous Pakistani Cleric Says TTP’s Operations Are Haram

Mahnoor Tariq

According to Pakistani religious scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani, any armed activity against the government of Pakistan is ‘haram’ and ‘rebellion’ under Islamic law.

Why it matters:

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistani Taliban, has been waging an insurgency in Pakistan for the past 15 years. They fight for stricter enforcement of Islamic law in the nation. In addition, they have also been demanding release of their members detained by the government, and a decrease in the military’s presence at Pak-Afghan border.
