QUETTA: Maulana Hidayat Ur Rehman, leader of the Gwadar Rights Movement (GRM) has been handed a three-day physical remand by the anti-terrorism court on Tuesday. Rehman along with three others was presented in the ATC on Monday.
Saadat Khan Banzai, an ATC judge handed Rehman and three others to the crime branch on a three-day physical remand.
Protests at Gwadar
In the recent past, Gwadar has become a hotbed for demonstrations. A large number of people have been protesting against illegal fishing, trawling, and unnecessary checkpoints in the port city. The protests have been ongoing since last year. The demonstration turned violent and clashes broke out between the police and members of the GRM. Moreover, Gwadar has been experiencing a mobile service blackout for the past ten days.
Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, Chief Minister took notice of that resulted in several arrests of GRM supporters. On the other hand, according to the GRM supporters, numerous supporters, leaders, children, and women were injured in the out-of-control protests.
Hidayat ur Rehman Arrest
Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman was arrested on Friday by Gwadar police. He was arrested while seeking a pre-arrest bail from Gwadar court.
