On Jan 23, multiple cities in Pakistan experienced power outage due to failed energy-saving measure implemented by the government. Minister of Energy, Khurram Dastagir, announced that the electricity restoration across the country will take 12 hours.

After almost 14 hours, the electricity was gradually restored across Karachi, Pakistan. This restoration lasted for 7-8 hours, and now the port city is once again facing power outage.
The blackout occurred when electricity was shut off during low usage hours overnight in an effort to conserve fuel. However, this caused technical difficulties, preventing the power system from restarting fully the next morning.

The incident reminded people of a similar widespread blackout that happened in January 2021, which was said to have been caused by a technical malfunction in Pakistan’s power generation and distribution system.
National Transmission & Dispatch Company Limited – Ministry of Energy (Power Divison) took to their Twitter account, stating that as transmission systems are being re-linked, citizens may have to face 2 to 4 hours of load shedding on Jan 24 (today).
