ISLAMABAD: Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Maulana Fazl ur Rahman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), met and spoke about the political climate in the nation.
The two leaders had talks about running in the forthcoming by-elections and discussed the political atmosphere during their hour-long meeting at Zardari House in Islamabad.
PTI’s Member’s Resignation
After the resignations of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were accepted on March 16, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared that by-elections would be held on the 33 National Assembly seats they had vacated.

According to reports, Zardari and Maulana Fazl discussed the approaching by-elections and the general election. They also talked about the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) decision to abstain from the by-elections.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier today to discuss the political climate.

According to sources, Maulana Fazl is trying to persuade Zardari to abstain from the National Assembly by-elections. Moreover, the PDM only intends to run in the provincial elections if it is unsuccessful in preventing voting in both provincial assemblies.
PDM does not wish to run in the NA by-elections, as per the sources. However, the PPP wants to fight the results because it is unwilling to give the PTI a clear advantage.
A day earlier, Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister, and JUI-F leader Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman paid Asif Ali Zardari, the former president, a visit. Discussions regarding the country’s broader political situation took place throughout the meeting.
Additionally present at the meeting were Ministers for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Minister for Economic and Political Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Minister for Defense Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
