Imran Khan, the chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has been served with a Rs. 10 billion defamation notice by the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP). The development comes after he accused former president Asif Ali Zardari for making “baseless claims” against him.

On Jan 27, via a video presser, Khan said four people devised a conspiracy “behind closed doors” to assassinate him. Naming Zardari as one of them, Khan accused him of hiring and funding militants to kill him.
The defamation notice:
The notice read: “On Jan 27, you made the claims in your video link which was broadcasted on almost all news channels all over the world including England. You made false, fabricated, and scandalous statements as well as levelled allegations of serious nature against our client.”

It further stated: “You tried to create a link between our client and terrorist organisations blindly disregarding the fact that our client and his party has remained a victim of terrorism,” linking Mohatarma Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.
The notice also observed Zardari spending 8 years of jail because of ‘false, conocted cases’ against him. The notification further states that the PPP co-chairperson suffered “great suffering, mental stress, and loss of reputation” as a result of the PTI chief’s “defamatory conduct.”
