An all-time hike in Petroleum prices push the matter to court, and the Lahore High Court (LHC) summoned the federal government.
Justice Shahid Karim heard the petition of Azhar Siddique in LHC.
“The Federal Government has jacked up the prices without any stronger reason,” said the petitioner.
The court described the surge in petroleum prices as nullified and issued a notice to the concerned.
On January 29, the government announced the new hike in fuel prices which pushed the fuel to a historical increase at 249.89.
In the wake of reviving the ninth review of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the government is attempting to fulfill the condition, and the hike in the prices is the main factor.
The minister attributed the need for these measures to the devaluation of the rupee and an 11% increase in international oil prices.
He said that despite fluctuations in world oil prices, the government did not raise oil prices in the past 4 months.
