ISLAMABAD: Despite the contrariness of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the federal capital’s local court granted bail to Fawad Chaudhary in a sedition case.

The district and session court judge of Islamabad, Faizan Gilani, heard Fawad Chaudhary’s petition for bail.

During the proceedings, the investigation officer (IO) presented the case record to the court. The judge instructed Babar Awan, Chaudhary’s counsel, to review the case.

“The portion of the report detailing criticism made by Fawad Chaudhary” was reviewed by the judge.

Prosecutor’s Arguments

The prosecutor argued that ensuring free and fair elections is the constitutional responsibility of the ECP and that responsibilities are assigned, not performed by the government itself.

The prosecutor also claimed that hate against the ECP has been spread on social media and that Fawad Chaudhry said in a talk show that rebellion is necessary for this country.

The judge inquired about any evidence on record against Fawad Chaudhry regarding the sedition clause.

The investigating officer is currently on medical leave and further investigation is ongoing.

The Case Against Fawad Chaudhary

The First Information Report (FIR) against Fawad Chaudhary, has been registered by the Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for making derogatory remarks against the ECP.

In a media talk, Chaudhary stated that the chief election commissioner is a “Clark” and that he signs papers on the orders of the PDM government.

He made these comments when he was talking about the appointment of the chief minister of Punjab, Mohsin Raza Naqvi.
