LAHORE: Muhammad Zubair, the spokesperson for party leader Nawaz Sharif and senior president Maryam Nawaz, confirmed that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has resigned from his party position.
Talking to Capital TV, Zubair stated, “Mr. Abbasi has resigned from his position as the vice-president of the party, but he has not left us. He remains a member of PMLN.”
Earlier, the spokesperson of Abbasi said, “The news of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s resignation is baseless.”
“According to privy sources, Mr. Abbasi informed the party’s supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, three years ago that he would leave the party position if Maryam Nawaz will be appointed as a senior leader.”
He stated that he would remain with PML-N until death, but if the party were to sever ties with him, his next step would be to return home.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi extended his greetings to Maryam Nawaz and mentioned that he was unable to meet with her.
Miftah & Dar Clashes
In response to the disagreement between Miftah Ismail and Ishaq Dar, Zubair stated, “I don’t want to publicly discuss the party’s differences.”
When asked about the rise in petrol prices, he said that it depends on the fluctuation of the dollar and the prices in the international market.
He stated that it is challenging to explain to the public, but if prices increase then there will be an indirect impact.
“Taking tough decisions is necessary for improvement. The benefits will be seen after the revival of the IMF program,” he said.
