LAHORE: The senior leader of PML-N, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, has resigned from the position of Vice President of the party, according to sources.
However, the spokesperson of Abbasi said, “The news of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s resignation is baseless.”
“According to privy sources, Mr. Abbasi informed the party’s supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, three years ago that he would leave the party position if Maryam Nawaz will be appointed as a senior leader.”
He stated that he would remain with PML-N until death, but if the party were to sever ties with him, his next step would be to return home.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi extended his greetings to Maryam Nawaz and mentioned that he was unable to meet with her.
On January 3rd, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed Maryam Nawaz as the Senior Vice President and Chief Organizer of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN).
A notification, signed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was issued regarding this development, granting Maryam Nawaz the responsibility of reorganizing the party.
Maryam Nawaz is the daughter of the party’s supreme leader, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
