ISLAMABAD: The district court of Federal Capital granted the request of the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Toshakhana case, allowing him an exemption from appearing in court.

The federal capital’s session court on 31 January, had decided to frame an indictment against former Prime Minister Imran Khan on February 7 in regard to the Toshakhana case.

However, the court approved Khan’s request for an exemption on medical grounds, as he has not fully recovered from the injuries sustained in the Wazirabad assassination attempt.

The decision to grant the exemption was made by Additional Session Judge Zafar Iqbal. Following the acceptance of Khan’s request, the indictment was not framed.

The lawyer for PTI stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) did not provide the verified copies of the case.

However, the court did not announce the next date for the indictment of Imran Khan.

Court Orders CEO’s Affidavit

However, the Lahore High Court warned the CEO of Toshakhana to submit an affidavit regarding the case in a separate hearing.

The court ordered the CEO of Toshakhana to submit an affidavit regarding the case, warning that if the affidavit is not submitted in the next hearing, the court will proceed with contempt of court proceedings,” expressing its anger towards the CEO.

During the proceedings, the court rejected the vague response of the section officer of Toshakhana. The judge asked where the officer was whom the court had demanded an affidavit from.

The section officer stated that they were considering making the details of Toshakhana public.

The court noted that this was not the court’s concern, and that it had requested an affidavit and details of individuals who received gifts from Toshakhana.

The court granted the CEO of Toshakhana a reprieve until February 21st.
