PESHAWAR: The federal government in Pakistan replaced the Inspector General (IG) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Moazzam Jah Ansari on Thursday. The appointment was replaced with a junior officer to lead the KP police force. The change in leadership was observed in context to the rising terrorist incidents in the province.
The released statement by the Establishment Division, mentioned, with the approval of federal government, government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ansari, serving as a provincial police officer (PPO) is being transferred.

The Establishment Division released another statement announcing the appointment of Akhtar Hayat as the new police chief of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Moreover, it added, “Akhtar Hayat, a police officer in the rank of BS-21, who is currently serving in the Federal Investigation Agency under the interior division, has been transferred and assigned as the Provincial Police Officer of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in accordance with Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, with immediate effect and until further notice.”
It also stated, section 10 of the civil servant acts gives federal government the authority to appoint a junior officer. Moazzam Jah Ansari, was previous held for a Frontier Constabulary position and was transferred to KP police chief in June 2021.

Akhtar Hayat Credentials
Akhtar Hayat has held positions as regional police officer in areas including Malakand, Mardan, Kohat, Hazara, and Gwadar. He began his career in 1994 as an assistant superintendent. He was honored with the Sword of Honour. Moreover, he has served as the Senior ASP of the Course from 1995-96.
Hayat held various high-level roles, including as additional IG of counter-terrorism in Baluchistan, AIG Special Branch in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FIA zonal director in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and additional director general at the FIA headquarters in Islamabad.
In addition to serving as RPO in various regions, he was also appointed as a DPO in cities including Haripur, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swat, and Mansehra.
