The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has developed a platform to identify and track sex offenders.
The National Sex Offenders Registry (NSOR) by Nadra is paired with an SMS verification service which will help citizens in identifying sex offenders. Various law enforcement departments and provincial governments are also involved so the information is swift and authentic. The initiative is aimed towards making Nadra more useful to the citizens of Pakistan as they can use such platforms more to their benefit. Nadra Chairman Tariq Malik says that this initiative has always remained close to his heart, “It is a critical step towards safeguarding women and children from sexual violence and abuse.”

According to Malik, citizens can verify people by using their CNIC number when hiring domestic staff, college and university teachers, to make sure they don’t have a history of criminal background. He believes that preventing even a single woman or child from getting sexually abused is an investment in the future of the country. “We owe it to the weakest of the weak, and our nation has to take this responsibility seriously,” added Malik.
This service’s goal is to make information about sex offenders accessible to institutions and citizens right away.
Additionally, the information can be utilised to track down criminals so that they can be prosecuted for their crimes and prevented from doing them again.
How can you use the app:
Citizens can check whether a potential employee is a convicted sex offender by submitting a 13-digit CNIC number to the SMS short code 7000 once the applicant provides their CNIC. After authentication, a message in Urdu saying “Beware! A prisoner is XYZ’s son ABC. Keep him away from women and children.
