In a show of support for former Prime Minister Imran Khan, a large crowd of supporters gathered outside the White House on Sunday.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, addressing the crowd, expressed concerns that the upcoming elections might also be delayed. In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Khan criticized the lack of rule of law in Pakistan and claimed that more than 10,000 PTI workers had been arrested.
Supporters of Khan, arriving in two buses from Virginia, displayed their unwavering determination in front of the White House. They sang patriotic songs and chanted slogans. One song aimed to uplift the spirits of worried supporters amidst the crackdown on party workers, assuring them that better days would come. Notably, buses from other areas in and around Washington also transported PTI supporters, indicating the party’s growing popularity among the Pakistani-American community since Khan’s arrest. The dominant slogans at the White House gathering were “Pakistan Zindabad” (Long Live Pakistan) and “Imran Khan Zindabad” (Long Live Imran Khan), with no anti-military slogans observed, distinguishing this protest from previous ones.
