‘Free and fair elections’ are the only solution to the country’s crises, said Shafqat Mehmood, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Mehmood added that there are two types of people resigning from PTI.
One group consists of those who were not given any ticket, mainly from South Punjab, while others are unable to withstand the pressure. However, the main reason for their departure, according to Mehmood, is the pressure exerted on former PTI leaders.
Mehmood denied claims regarding the senior PTI leadership quitting. Furthermore, as the former Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training of Pakistan, he highlighted that Pakistan is facing severe crises, including economic, political, and security issues. In addition, Mehmood stated that PTI is prepared to engage in talks for free and fair elections in the country.
Recently, Aftab Siddiqui, the party’s MNA and Karachi chapter president, announced his resignation due to a “difference of opinion” and his condemnation of the nationwide riots that erupted following the arrest of party chief Imran Khan.
