Addressing the press in Islamabad, Maleeka expressed her condemnation of the events that took place on that day, emphasizing the pain it caused to all Pakistanis. During the press conference, Bokhari clarified that her decision to disassociate from the party was not influenced or forced upon her, stating that she wanted to play a positive role in Pakistan as a lawyer and also spend time with her family.
The announcement came shortly after her release from Adiala Jail, where she had been detained under Section 4 of the Maintenance of Public Order. The PTI has been facing strong backlash from the government and the military following the arrest of Imran Khan on May 9, which led to party workers engaging in destructive acts against military installations, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The army referred to that day as a “Black Day.” In response, the army has demanded that those involved in the attacks be prosecuted under the Pakistan Army Act and the Official Secrets Act. Moreover, Asad Umar, a close aide of Imran Khan, has resigned from his positions as secretary general and core committee member of the party.
