Jahangir Khan Tareen, a former leader who had distanced himself from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has recently made headlines by announcing his plans to establish a new national-level political party. Insider sources reveal that disgruntled leaders from within the PTI are expected to join Tareen’s new political endeavor.
Additionally, influential political families hailing from areas such as Dera Ghazi Khan (DG Khan), Rajanpur, Muzzafargarh, Lodhran, and Multan are likely to rally behind Tareen’s party. Sources further disclose that several prominent leaders from Karachi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan have expressed their interest in aligning themselves with Jahangir Tareen’s political venture. It is reported that Tareen will assume the role of patron-in-chief within the party.
Adding to the developments, Tareen has recently established a political office in Lahore, which serves as a clear indication of his active involvement in shaping the new party. Sources familiar with the matter also reveal that former PTI lawmakers from South Punjab, who recently severed ties with the party, have met with Tareen in Lahore.
Furthermore, more than 20 influential political figures, whose identities are yet to be unveiled, have engaged in discussions with Jahangir Tareen in the city. Tareen, who previously held the position of secretary general within the PTI, faced disqualification from politics in 2017 following allegations of dishonesty raised in a petition filed by Hanif Abbasi, a prominent leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
